Naima Coster – What’s Mine and Yours
When a county initiative in North Carolina forces all the students of a mostly-Black public school to move across town to a mostly White school, the community is outraged. For two students, the quiet and aloof Gee and the headstrong Noelle these divisions extend far beyond their school as their paths continue to cross and collide over the next 30 years. Gee’s mother is grieving her partner’s murder while determining for her son to have the best chances in life. While on the other side Noelle’s mother refuses to see her half-Latina daughters as anything but White. Naima Coster’s What’s Mine and Yours is a coming-of-age novel of family sagas that explores issues of race.
