Many authors have struggled to find the words they need – so end up inventing new ones to fit the bill. A lot of them are forgotten by history but many have entered the language, unacknowledged as to their origin. Simply match up the word with the author who introduced it to find out where these every day words came from.
Below you have eighteen words, all from the OED along with eighteen authors and the year the word was coined. All you have to do is match them up. Let us know how you do in the comments.
