Rare first edition Roald Dahl books could be worth up to £12k according to experts at LoveAntiques.
LoveAntiques are marking the 50th anniversary of the cinematic release of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with a guide to the most valuable books written by Dahl.
Welsh-born Dahl rose to fame as a writer in the 1940s after he had spent time serving in the Royal Air Force during WWII. He has written for both adults and kids but is best known for his children’s stories such as Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Some of his first edition publications are now worth quite a bit of money so it may be time to check your shelves!
The top five most valuable books are:
- First UK edition or first US edition (1943) copy of The Gremlins is valued at £12,500.
- First edition, first impression, presentation copy of The Witches is valued at £6,750.
- First US edition, signed and inscribed of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is valued at £4,250.
- First UK edition, first impression and inscribed copy of The Magic Finger is valued at £3,750.
- First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed copy of Someone Like You, valued at £3,750.
