Rosemary Jane Thomson (Rose Tremain) was born on the 2nd August 1943 in London. Tremain studied English Literature at the University of East Anglia, where she later taught creative writing and became the Chancellor in 2013. She was awarded a CBE in 2007.
In 1983 Tremain was included on Granta’s list of “Best Young British Novelists”. Her novels which have been published in 27 countries have won numerous awards; “Music and Silence” won the 1999 Whitbread Novel of the Year Award and in 2008 she won the Orange Prize for Fiction for “The Road Home.”
Her latest book published in 2018 is a memoir entitled “Rosie: Scenes From a Vanished Life”.
