“Set in a small town in 1959 England, it is the story of a woman who decides, against polite but ruthless local opposition, to open a bookshop, a decision which becomes a political minefield.”
The Bookshop screenplay was written by Isabel Coixet, who also directed the film, and adapted from a novel by Penelope Fitzgerald. It stars Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns) and Bill Nighy (Dad’s Army Movie) who together try to bring some culture to a stale town, much to the horror of some locals…
The Bookshop is out in cinemas on June 29th 2018.
