The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3: Coming Soon

Margaret Atwood’s chilling dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale and its scary likeness to current politics has made it a hot topic over the last few years, despite the fact that it was first published over 30 years ago.

This year we’ve been treated to the exciting news that Atwood is publishing the book’s sequel The Testaments in September, Offred actress Elisabeth Moss narrating a new edition of The Handmaid’s Tale audiobook and now, news of the third season of the Hulu TV adaptation.

(Warning: Possible spoilers ahead)

Season two of The Handmaid’s Tale left watchers on a tantalising cliffhanger after Serena Joy and a secret network of ‘Marthas’ helped Offred (June) to escape to Canada and to safety with her baby but June suddenly decides she needs to stay in Gilead to rescue her firstborn child, Hannah.

The first trailer for season three which dropped during a Super Bowl advert break in February opens with a male speaker inspired by the former American president, Ronald Reagan’s Morning America campaign (1984). Then, this voiceover gives way to Offred announcing “Wake up, America. Morning’s over” and images that suggest a resistance from the Handmaids is on its way.

In May, Hulu released another trailer which gives watchers even more hints about what to expect when the explosive series comes back to our screens. Anyone else as excited as we are?

So when can we expect to see The Handmaid’s Tale season three? The resistance is coming June 5th on Hulu in America and it has been suggested that, as with past seasons, Channel 4 will air The Handmaid’s Tale season three not long after it shows in America.
