A Clockwork Orange Coming Back to Cinemas

By February 26, 2019Adaptations, News

Many movies have been getting the remake treatment in recent years, but someone obviously thinks that Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Anthony Burgess’ dystopian A Clockwork Orange is too good to be improved.

This week, the week that marks the author’s birthday, we hear the news that Kubrick’s 1971 classic will be coming back to cinemas in its original and brilliant form.

The ultra-violent movie that is portrayed more like a work of art, is a decline of civilisation vision of nihilistic violence and social control. After it’s release in 1971 it was linked to several violent crimes, causing Kubrick to request its withdrawal. For years, people passed around bad recordings and illegal copies, but the film never saw the legal light of day again until after Kubrick’s death.

The banned status of the film just increased its notoriety and popularity and since then it’s had several outings and exclusive runs. This latest run starts in UK cinemas from April 5th. You can find all the details here, and here is a new cut trailer to promote the movie below: Alternatively, scroll down below the trailer, and enjoy the book as Burgess intended.
