Emma Watson – Behind the Scenes of Little Women

By December 27, 2018Adaptations, News

Little Women has become synonymous with Christmas, although the book opens with the March sisters contemplating their first Christmas without their father who is away serving for his country the plot is not actually set predominately during the festive period, instead, spanning over years and different seasons. This notion of Little Women and Christmas may have come from the 1994 adaptation, which saw no traction for being made until Amy Pascal pitched it as a Christmas Film.

The latest version of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women will be the eighth adaptation of the novel, first published in 1868 and celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The adaptation is written and directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and produced by Amy Pascal (The Post), Denise Di Novi (Little Women 1994), Robin Swicord (Matilda), and Andrea Giannetti (Passengers).

Emma Watson will play Meg March alongside Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, and Eliza Scanlen as Meg’s sisters and the other ‘Little Women’ Jo, Amy and Beth. The cast will also star; Timothée Chalamet as Laurie, Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Laura Dern as Marmee, James Norton as John Brooke, and Louis Garrel as Friedrich Bhaer.

Self-confessed bookworm, Emma Watson is no stranger to bringing literary characters to life and she has played characters including Hermione Granger from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, Sam from Stephen Chomsky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Pauline Fossil from Noel Streatfield’s Ballet Shoes so we are excited to see her portray the eldest March sister in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.

Recently, Emma Watson shared some delightful behind the scenes pictures from the production of Gerwig’s Little Women that show the March sisters and director bonding together on set.

This film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women is due to be released Christmas Day 2019 (USA) and 17th January 2020 (UK).
