Game of Thrones’ Final Season Will Be “More Emotionally Torturous Than All the Years Before,” Says Sophie Turner

Since its first season aired back in 2011, Game of Thrones has become one of the most watched and most successful TV shows of all time. The show is based upon George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels and, though it’s set in a fantasy land, includes all the violence, sex, political intrigue, and morally grey characters our own real world history features.

After seven seasons, HBO has announced that the show’s eighth season will be its last, and fans are eager to see what will become of their favourite characters who’ve managed to survive so far, and who will finally get to suit on the iron throne. In a recent interview with Observer, actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed that the final season won’t be pulling its punches.

“It’s Game of Thrones,” she said, “so it’s going to be bloodier and more death and more emotionally torturous than all the years before.”

Turner then hinted at what becomes of her character, stating she’s quite pleased.

“I always had the feeling that she was learning and adapting,” said Turner. “And at some point or another, it was going to manifest itself somehow, and she manifested it into being a warrior. It felt really satisfying when it happened, and I’m really happy where this storyline for her has ended up.”

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is set to air sometime next year. Unlike previous seasons, the eighth season will only be six episodes long, though they will be longer.
