Matt Haig’s How to Stop Time to be a Movie

By March 10, 2018Adaptations, News

“How To Stop Time” by Matt Haig is the story of Tom Hazzard, who looks like an ordinary 41 year old, but due to a rare condition, he has been alive for hundreds of years. During these long centuries he has performed with Shakespeare, sailed to far off “new” lands with Captain Cook, and met and shared cocktails with The Fitzgeralds.

After reading lots of favourable comments about “How To Stop Time” on our book club page “The Cwts @ Reading Addicts”, I happened to spot a copy in my local Library. It was one of those books that I couldn’t put down, I desperately wanted to know what happened, but at the same time I didn’t want it to finish.

When it was finished it left me feeling a little bereft, so it filled me with glee when only the next day, I spotted an article which stated that Sunnymarch and Studiocanal had bought the rights to the book before it was published. The screenplay is to be written by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything) and will be produced by and star Benedict Cumberbatch.

There doesn’t appear to be any further cast or details available yet but watch this space for further news and the first trailer.

If you’d like to read the book before the film’s release, it is available in all the usual formats, plus there is also an illustrated edition, with drawings by the wonderful Chris Riddell, which is going on my Wish List.
