The recluse English writer, Emily Brontë, was born on the 30th of July in 1818 and died on the 19th of December in 1848. In her short life Emily wrote her only novel, Wuthering Heights, and many poems.
Wuthering Heights was first published in London in 1847 by Thomas Cautley Newby and was so full of passion and violence that it was assumed to be written by a man. British historian, Juliet Gardiner said: “the vivid sexual passion and power of its language and imagery impressed, bewildered and appalled reviewers.”
We took some of our favourite broody and moody Emily Brontë quotes from selected poems and from her novel, and put them together them below for your enjoyment.
