Raymond Chandler was born on the 23rd of July 1888, and died on the 26th of March 1959. He was an American novelist and screenwriter with many successful novels and works under his belt. After losing his job during the Great Depression, Chandler started writing detective fiction, and in 1933 his first short story Blackmailers Don’t Shoot, was published in a pulp magazine.
Chandler is considered the founder for his type of American detective genre, and is still an inspirational and influential author.
