Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ to star Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden & Olivia Coleman

Netflix have announced a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s much-loved, classic novel, Pride and Prejudice. The new six-part limited series will star big names including Emma Corrin (Lady Chatterley’s Lover, The Crown), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Mary Queen of Scots), and Olivia Coleman (The Favourite, Broadchurch).

This adaptation will be directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Doctor Who), with a script written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I know About Love). Netflix explains that the limited series “will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel” from Alderton, who hopes audiences will cherish it “whilst inspiring a new generation to fall in love with Austen for the first time.”

Alderton added: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it.

“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Production is set to begin later this year, with Emma Corrin starring as Elizabeth Bennet, a role famously portrayed previously by Keira Knightly (2005), and before than Jennifer Ehle (1995). Jack Lowden is set to take on a role that is best known for its portrayal by Colin Firth (1995) and later Matthew Macfadyen (2005), Mr Darcy. While the Oscar-winning actor, Olivia Coleman, will star as Mrs Bennet.

Emma told Deadline: “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
