Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging to get new TV adaptation

Louise Rennison’s comedic teen novel, Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, is set to get a new TV adaptation. The book was previously turned into a hit film, retitled as Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging in 2008, starring Georgia Groome in the lead role, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Georgie Henshaw, Manjeevan Grewal, Kimberley Nixon, Eleanor Tomlinson, and others. Now, almost a decade later, the funny and flawed character of Georgia Nicolson is set to return to screens, this time for streaming.

Louise Rennison’s Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series opened with Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (1999), which was followed up by nine other titles; concluding with Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me? (2009). The books, written by English writer Rennison, follow the life of Georgia, her wacky family (including feral Scottish wild cat mix Angus) and her close friendship group the ‘Ace Gang’ as they navigate school life, crushes, first loves, puberty and more.

Despite being very well recieved by teenage readers and being multi-million selling novels, Rennison’s work did recieve backlash from teachers and parents about the content in the books; which as the titles suggest often explore romance, kissing, boys, relationships and changing bodies. Rennison rarely apologised for her writing, instead turning the the intended audience themselves to write about what they would want to reads.

“Surely they know what to expect, they know [my books are] all about boys and snogging and all those experiences. What else am I going to talk about?” Louise Rennison once said of her books.

Casting director, Rachel Sheridan (Amandaland, Such Brave Girls) announced a casting call for the pilot episode on social media. The call sought UK-based adult applicants who could pass for a 15/16 year-old. The casting is committed to inclusivity, no previous professional acting experience is required the team only ask for a love of acting and great comedy ability.

Sheridan said: “We’re casting for a TV pilot for a major streamer: Angus, Thongs And Full-Frontal Snogging – based on the worldwide bestselling Confessions of Georgia Nicolson books! This is a really exciting opportunity for young people!”

Due to great response that quickly met maximum submission numbers, the casting call for Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging has since been closed early. Sheridan and her team will now be working through all the submission to find the next Ace Gang.

Filming for the series is thought to be scheduled for May to October 2027. It is believed therefore that the series will likely air in 2028, and The Daily Mirror report that the adaptation is connected to a major streaming platform.
