BBC to Adapt Helen Fitzgerald’s The Cry for Miniseries

With Jenna Coleman Starring!

Fans of Helen’s Fitzgerald’s thriller The Cry will be thrilled to hear that the adaptation is in the hands of the BBC who will adapt the novel into a four-part psychological drama later this year.

Today it’s announced that Jenna Coleman (Victoria, Doctor Who) will star, playing Joanna, while Australian actor Ewan Leslie will play her husband Alistair.

The book, first released in 2013 was adapted for screen by Jacquelin Perske and follows the story of a couple who have to deal with unthinkable tragedy when their newborn baby is abducted. What follows is a twisty turny psychological thriller, that we suspect will adapt perfectly for screen. The novel has sold around 7,000 copies to date but with a tie in edition ready for August, and the readers the adaptation is likely to bring in, that will increase.

The drama is being made for the BBC and will be produced by Brian Kaczynski for Synchronicity Films for BBC One. The Cry will be show in and around both Melbourne and Glasgow and is likely to air in the autumn, giving you plenty of time to read the novel before the adaptation airs!
