Nick Cave has turned his hand to children’s literature.

The musician, best known for his work with his band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, has written and illustrated a children’s book, The Little Thing, which is due for release on November 15th.

Cave initially wrote the story for his neighbour’s daughter, three-year-old Esme.

“It is the tale of a little thing that goes on an epic adventure to discover the true nature of its identity,” Cave says on his website.

“‘What am I?’ asks The Little Thing. Along the way it meets cast of diverse characters including a tomato, a toilet roll, a showerhead, a cupcake, and a corn on the cob, that guide The Little Thing toward its final joyous realisation.”

Readers who purchase book also receive a free download of The Little Thing, narrated by Cave, and featuring music from him as well as Bad Seeds band member Warren Ellis, who has also recently released a memoir Nina Simone’s Gum.
