The Exorcist is one of the few books that gave me sleepless nights, I remember the furore when the film was released and subsequently banned from theatres everywhere and wondered at the kinds of people who would want to see the horrors held within the pages of that book wrought upon the big screen. When I finally did see the film, it was something of a disappointment, although brilliant it was nowhere near as terrifying as the book had been but then almost twenty years had gone past so perhaps I was simply inured to the horrors of the story rather than the film being a tame adaptation.
Then I came across this, the audio version of William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist read by Sir Christopher Lee, I listened to it and was instantly transported back to my bedroom at my mother’s, petrified.
