Twitter caused quite a stir recently when one writer decided to expose a bad male authors for what they are: sexist and dull.
While bad writers of all genders exist, it is a strange phenomenon that sees many male authors write female characters with no sense of them as a person. They describe their bodies as if they were something to consume, and their personalities as an aside, if at all. It becomes more uncomfortable when they attempt to write from the woman’s perspective- giving her an inner monologue that wouldn’t be out of place in a pornography film script.
Let’s make it clear: women do not describe their bodies as if it was for male consumption. That’s the first and most basic rule. The second rule would be- if you can’t write a female part without instantly sexualising her, maybe don’t bother.
Meanwhile, if you have always wondered how one of these awful writers would write YOU- try this fun game below.
