First-look at the new Hercule Poirot coming to the BBC

Hercule Poirot, the Belgium detective was created by Agatha Christie and featured in over 33 novels and 50 short stories between 1920 and 1975.

He is now household name and over the years has been played by over ten different men- now that list also includes American actor, John Malkovich.

The BBC has announced a new Hercule Poirot series produced in conjunction with Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited adaptation of The ABC Murders. The series will be first shown on BBC One.




John Malkovich has told the BBC:

“I’m honoured to have been asked to play Hercule Poirot. It’s a role that’s been played by a number of excellent actors, and I am enjoying the numerous challenges this part presents. I have great respect for Sarah Phelps’ screenplay and hope to do both she and Agatha Christie’s creation some measure of justice.”




Netflix’s Harlan Coben love affair continues with new adaptation

Author Harlan Coben is no stranger to the streaming platform, Netflix, and with the news of a new upcoming adaptation of another of his thriller novels, Netflix’s love affair with his work continues. A new eight-part series will adapt Coben’s 2019 book, Run Away, and will star a sparkling line-up on actors including Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones, Cold Feet’s James Nesbitt, as well as British-American actress Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch, who played Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter series.

Hugh Bonneville narrates Sherlock Holmes short stories for the BBC

Bestselling WWII novel to air as six-part mini-series on Sky

Roald Dahl Estate Announces ‘Wonka’ Tie-in Novel

Those of you who enjoy a good film as well as a good book may be aware that Warner Bros is currently working on a film based on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Called Wonka, the film stars Timothée Chalamet as the titular character, and will explore how Willy Wonka came to be the eccentric chocolatier we meet in Dahl’s novel.

If you’re excited to return to the magical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the Roald Dahl Estate is teaming up with Puffin to publish a tie-in novelisation of the film, written by children’s author Sibéal Pounder. The novel will be released alongside the film’s debut on 15th December. As The Bookseller reports, Puffin publishing director, Ruth Knowles, said: “As the bestselling author of Bad Mermaids and Witch Wars series [Bloomsbury], Sibéal Pounder is an expert in crafting stories for young readers full of irreverent humour, charismatic characters and magic. Trailer released for Netflix’s “All the light we cannot see” adaptation

Originally published in 2014, and met with critical acclaim and a Pulitzer Prize win, Anthony Doerr’s novel All the Light we Cannot See tells the story of a blind French girl taking refuge in her uncle’s house following the Nazi occupation of Paris during World War II, as well as a young German teenage boy whose skill with radios sees him sent to military school. In late 2021, it was announced that Netflix has acquired the rights to create a series based on the novel, and that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight would serve as the writer. Read More

Twilight TV Series Reportedly in Development

TV shows based on popular books are all the rage these days, from Amazon’s Rings of Power to Netflix’s Bridgerton. It was recently announced that a Harry Potter TV show is in development, and it seems one based on the Twilight saga is also in early development at Lionsgate Television, according to THR.

The source claims the show is being written by Sinead Daly, who has previously worked on the likes of Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down. It’s still very early days for the show, and it is yet to be announced which platform or network it will air on, from Netflix to HBO, but the studio intends to shop the rights further into the project’s development. It is said the author of the books, Stephanie Meyer, will be involved in some capacity.
