For Reading Addicts Book of the Year 2024

Another year has come to a close as fireworks and New Year’s Day mark the start of 2025, and once again we’ve asked our followers to nominate their favourite book of 2024 (published either this year or last year). We’ve collated the votes, and present here; the For Reading Addicts’ Book of the Year 2024.

With 13 votes, the Book of the Year, as chosen by you is James by Percival Everett (published 19th March). Winner of the National Book Award for Fiction, shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and a Finalist for the Orwell Prize for Fiction, James, is a comedic literary re-telling of the American classic, Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

Set on the Missippi River in 1861, a fleeing James and Huck navigate the dangerous waters, heading towards the promised free states. Along the way, the unlikely pair embark on perhaps their most life-changing moment of all.

While Percival Everett won the top spot on our Book of the Year list, the shortlist was also full of great reading recommendations:
