Every month we like to get a measure of the books you’re reading, the chance for you to recommend the books you’ve loved. As we move into the month of April, we asked for your favourite reads of March for our FRA Top 40 books of the month list. As always you replied with enthusiasm, giving us a list of over 100 books, but as always we’ve condensed those down to a top 10 and then the top 40.
So here they are, the For Reading Addicts books for March, according to you, including all the ‘movers and shakers’, and links to any reviews we have on site. As always you’re an eclectic lot, and the list is made up of new releases, and classic literature.
1
Room – Emma Donoghue
Although Room by Emma Donoghue fell right out of the charts last month, it’s been consistent all year, and this thriller told from a single room is storming straight back up the charts as your number 1 read for March!
2
The 5th Wave – Rick Yancey
Shan from the team has just read and recommended this, and it seems a few of you are checking it out too! From nowhere, The 5th Wave, a YA sci-fi novel and the first in the trilogy, it takes the second spot this month.
3
Prince of Tides – Pat Conroy
We’re not sure what fired this up the charts either. Prince of Tides was released back in 1986, with a feature film coming five years later, but this month enough of you are reading it for it to take the third spot in our top ten!
4
Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
The books from the Lunar Chronicles have been making our top 40 all year, and this month the second book in the quartet makes our top ten with a new twist on an old tale.
5
11/22/63 – Stephen King
We don’t think we’ve ever had a month where King doesn’t make the top 40 somewhere and this month, the day that Kennedy died features in the number 5 spot.
6
To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee
The classic novel from the recently departed Ms. Lee took the top spot last month, and this month it’s in the top 10 again, falling 5 places to number 6.
7
Queen of Swords – Sara Donati
The fifth book in the Into the Wilderness series by Sara Donati is Queen of Swords, at number 7 in the top 10. It’s the summer of 1814, and this is highly recommended historical fiction.
8
Circling the Sun – Paula McLain
Circling the Sun is a moving memoir style novel about a young girl brought to Kenya from Britain for a new dream life. However, dreams turn sour and enough of you are enjoying this touching book to put it in our top 10 for March.
9
Sarah’s Key – Tatiana De Rosnay
Sarah’s Key is a story of two plots, a mesmerising tale set between wartime France and the present day, and it’s Number 9 in our top 10 for March.
10
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams
There’s no doubt the H2G2 is perennial reading so we’re not at all surprised to see it complete our top ten for the month!
