If you’re a fan of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone or Six of Crows series then we have some fantastic news for you today. Netflix has greenlighted an eight-episode series based on the novels and it’ll be written by Eric Heisserer, writer of Netflix’s smash hit Bird Box and Shawn Levy, executive producer of Stranger Things. Bardugo will also serve as executive producer for the show, which will go into production very soon.
Shadow and Bone will bring together the stories and characters of both Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, and while we’re very excited we hope that Netflix can do the two overlapping series justice in just eight episodes. We’re sure anyone else who has read the series will agree that a series per book would have been possible and we can only hope it doesn’t all feel too rushed.
The Grishaverse is a rich fantasy world with tones of cold, harsh Russia and a great big dollop of fantasy and magic where creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might help her reunite her country if she can just battle the dangerous forces plotting around her.
The novels have sold more than 2.5 million copies in English Language alone and have been translated into 38 languages to date. A new instalment of the Grishaverse, King of Scars if to be released later this month.
There’s no release date yet for the series and we haven’t heard anything about casting, but we’ll be keeping out eye on the news and are tentatively excited for this adaptation from Netflix.
