It’s time to open today’s advent calendar and we have a beautiful Christmas quote from the novel, Song of Years. Set in Iowa in 1851 where frontier living and the politics leading up to the Civil War make life tough and challenging.
While it may not sound like the best setting for a Christmas quote, Song of Years if full of little gems, beautifully written, historically sound and a highly recommended read. Here’s what author Bess Streeter Aldrich has to say about Christmas Eve.
“Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart…filled it, too, with melody that would last forever.”
Released in 1991, Songs of Years isn’t a festive read, but the characters do celebrate a Christmas in the book, giving us this quote. And possibly giving you a new reading suggestion if you’re a lover of historical fiction.
We hope you enjoyed today’s quote, we’ll be back tomorrow for another window in the literary advent calendar.
