‘Salem’s Lot is due another adaptation for the big screen, according to Deadline.

The director of spooky horror Annabelle Comes Home, Gary Dauberman, will be in charge of the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 horror novel.

Producers James Wan, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper are also on board. Wan worked with Dauberman on the Annabelle franchise, and made his feature directorial debut with Annabelle Comes Home.

King’s classic horror was last adapted in 1995 as a BBC Radio 4 drama, but its most famous adaptation was in 1979- a 2-part series that was shown as a movie in some countries.

Filming began in September 2021, and stars Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, with Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson, and Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton.

King’s novel is set in the town of Jerusalem’s Lot, Maine, and follows writer Ben Mears as he returns to ‘Salem’s Lot to find inspiration for his next book, but discovers residents in his home town are being turned into vampires.

It is famously one of King’s favourite stories: “In a way it is my favourite story, mostly because of what it says about small towns. They are kind of a dying organism right now. The story seems sort of down home to me. I have a special cold spot in my heart for it!”

The movie is due for release September 2022.
