British comedian writes Baked Potato book for kids

Comedian Matt Lucas has written an illustrated children’s book based on his fundraising song Thank You, Baked Potato.

The British funny man is best known for his part in creating Little Britain back in 2003, and more recently for playing Nardole in Doctor Who.

During the COVID19 pandemic he and Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacy) recorded a version of a song previously sung on kooky BBC comedy show Shooting Stars. The YouTube video went viral, prompting other stars to make their own Baked Potato songs. Among the stars willing to get onboard the Baked Potato train was Gary Barlow from the 90s boyband Take That, drag artist Courtney Act, Queen’s Brian May, and the accidental viral sensation Rick Astley.

In the book inspired by Thank You Baked Potato, the titular potato offers sage advice out for families in the 32-page book aimed at kids aged 3 and over.

Proceeds from the fun title will go to Feed NHS, a campaign Lucas set up to to get hot meals to NHS front line workers.

Lucas said: ‘I am chuffed to bits that we are bringing out this book of the song – complete with Scott Coello’s brilliant illustrations – so that children can help remember how to stay safe.’
