Dolly Parton Receives $100m from Jeff Bezos

By November 14, 2022November 16th, 2022News

Dolly Parton is the latest recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award from the Amazon owner, which will see her receive $100,000,000.

On Instagram this week, Laura Sanchez, Bezos’ long term partner posted “Jeff [Bezos] and I are so proud to share that we have a new Bezos Courage and Civility Award winner — a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work,” confirming the grant to the country music legend, philanthropist and all round good egg, Dolly.

Dolly has long been known for her dedication to literature with the Imagination Library and the Dollywood Foundation, and she’s also head of the Dolly Parton scholarship, providing $15,000 to recipients towards a college education. More recently Dolly gave $1 million towards creating a vaccine for the Covid pandemic.

Bezos said last year of the award that recipients can give it all to their own charity, or share out the wealth, and we’ll be excited to see exactly where Dolly puts it, as we know what a force for good she is!

The award from the Amazon owner is one of his own growing philanthropic efforts and following the announcement of the award, he spoke of the idea of giving away all of his billions within his lifetime.

Whatever happens, we suspect Dolly will be injecting lots of this cash into literature and education, and we’re really excited to see what comes next.
