‘Frozen’ songwriters have created a musical movie based on The Prince and the Dressmaker

A new movie musical written by the great minds behind the music of Coco, Frozen, and Frozen 2 is in the works!

Coming straight from their third Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for Frozen 2’s “Into the Unknown”, Kristen and Bobby Lopez are straight back to work on a new musical.

The team is working with Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog (4000 Miles) to adapt a graphic novel by Jen Wong.

According to Playbill, the Lopezes have said: “Our next movie musical project is with Marc Platt and it is a musical version of a graphic novel called The Prince and the Dressmaker.”

The Prince and the Dressmaker follows a young prince who is desperately avoiding his parents’ threats of an arranged marriage, and is on the search for the perfect outfit…

The story is set in Paris and centres on Prince Sebastian whose best friend Frances, a dressmaker, is the only one who knows the truth about Sebastian’s secret passion for dresses, but she doesn’t want her creations to be secret for much longer.

Prince Sebastian expresses genderqueer or genderfluid sentiments in The Prince and The Dressmaker, but is never actually labeled as such.

“Some days I look at myself in the mirror and think, ‘That’s me, Prince Sebastian! I wear boy clothes and look like my father.’ Other days it doesn’t feel right at all,” he says.

Sebastian and Frances’ friendship is so engaging as they navigate the ups and downs of family, friendship, pressures and expectations, societal change, and being true to themselves.
