The book publisher, Penguin, will turn 90 on 30th July this year, and to celebrate their anniversary, they’re launching a new project ‘90 Little Book Stops’ in partnership with the non-profit organisation Little Free Library.
The Little Book Stops from Penguin will offer book exchange spots in local neighbourhoods across the UK with the “aim to celebrate the joy of reading and the people who make reading happen for their communities.” The first ‘Little Free Library’ was installed in 2009 in the US state of Wisconsin, and since then a global network of over 200,000 mini libraries have popped up.

A press release from Penguin explains: “We believe in the power of books to create connections between us and that each day, all over the UK, there are people who champion reading. Librarians, teachers, community leaders, parent groups, book sellers, youth workers, carers – the list goes on!”
Those who wish to get involved in the project can apply now if they have an idea for the perfect location for a Little Book Stop and can commit to becoming a ‘steward’ looking after the Little Book Stop. Nominations close 1st May 2025. Find out more including how to apply.
