The OED defines an idiom as being  “A group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words” and in this British Idioms Quiz we have eighteen for you to try and make sense of.

 


With eighteen phrases that although well known and often used among British English speaking people are often mired in mystery as to their origin. A little delving can usually uncover where the sayings came from but that doesn’t mean they make any sense.
