By September 3, 2019New Releases

Originally published in 2016, Sebastian Barry’s Days Without End was critically acclaimed and went on to win the Costa Book of the Year award and was selected by Time magazine as one of its top 10 novels of 2017. Those of you who adored the novel will be pleased to learn that a sequel is set to be published by Faber & Faber on 19 March 2020.

Called A Thousand Moons, the sequel will serve as a follow up from the previous book. As The Irish Times reports, editorial director Angus Cargill, said: “A new novel from Sebastian Barry is a huge moment for Faber as a company, but to have A Thousand Moons as his follow-up to Days Without End is incredibly exciting. Told in the voice of Winona – this extraordinary character trying to live through the trauma of dispossession – it is a brave and beautiful novel, which will, once again, capture readers’ hearts.”

The book’s description reads: “A Thousand Moons continues Sebastian Barry’s extraordinary fictional exploration of late nineteenth century America. Living with Thomas and John on the farm they work in 1870s Tennessee, educated and loved, Winona is employed by the lawyer Briscoe in the nearby town of Paris, as she tries to forge a life for herself beyond the violence and dispossession of her past. But the fragile harmony of this shared world, in the aftermath of the Civil War, is soon threatened by a further traumatic event, one which Winona struggles to confront let alone understand. Told in Sebastian Barry’s gorgeous, lyrical prose, A Thousand Moons is a powerful, moving study of one woman’s journey, about her determination to write her own future, and about the enduring human capacity for love.”

With nine novels under his belt, as well as many more plays and collections of poetry, Sebastian Barry has become one of Ireland’s most celebrated writers. He is the current Laureate for Irish Fiction and he has won the Costa Book of the Year award, the IBW Book Award and the Walter Scott Prize. We look forward to getting our hands on his latest novel.
