We started at 1918, bringing you the bestselling books of the last one hundred years. We’re moving along now, though it may be a while before we’ve covered the whole hundred years! We’re covering each year at a time and already up to the 1940s where today we take a look at the bestselling books of 1945.

In 1945 the end of WWII was in sight as Hitler retreated to his bunker before committing suicide, though sadly not quickly enough to save Anne Frank who died of Typhus in February at Bergen-Belsen. Slowly European countries were liberated and in April the Battle of Berlin begun with Nazi Germany finally surrendering on 8th May on the day we now know as VE Day.

Among all that, there were plenty of books published and read too, and today we’re featuring the bestselling novels of 1945, and some that didn’t make the list
