We started at 1918, bringing you the bestselling books of the last one hundred years. We’re moving along now and we’re into the 1970s as today we cover the bestselling fiction of 1976.
In 1976, Concorde entered service and cut transatlantic flying time to 3 1/2 hrs. Steve Jobs sold his VW microbus and founded Apple with Steve Wozniak. Looking around the world, riots in South Africa signaled the end of Apartheid. In the UK punk music appeared as a popular movement for the fist time, and Notting Hill carnival riots occurred after a spike in racial tensions.
Among all that, there were plenty of books published and read too, and today we’re featuring the bestselling novels of 1976, and some that didn’t make the list but have stood the test of time.
1976 also saw the release of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
We’ll continue this series right through to 2018, keep an eye out for 1977, coming soon!
