We started at 1918, bringing you the bestselling books of the last one hundred years. Today we start a new decade, as we countdown to the end of a century and a millennia with 1998!
1998 was an important year for the UK and Ireland after the signing of the Good Friday agreement brought to an end many years of fighting. Scandal hit the US, as President Clinton was forced to deny he had ‘Sexual relations’ with intern Monica Lewinsky. Russia also saw its fair share of trouble as the Soviet Union Banking system suffered a meltdown wiping 70% off the value of the Rouble in six months!
Among all that, there were plenty of books published and read too, and today we’re featuring the bestselling novels of 1998, and some that didn’t make the list but have stood the test of time.
1998 also saw the release of Barbara Kingsolver’s The Poisonwood Bible.
We’ll continue this series right through to 2018, keep an eye out for 1999, coming soon!

Loving the lists! of books of the last 100 years! I have all of my mother’s books (she belonged to 2 book clubs) and it’s fun to match them up over the years. She had pretty good taste in her choices. I am 77 years old and still have 2 to 3 going at one time , all the time. Thanks again.
