The much-loved characters from Charlie Mackesy’s best-selling 2019 book ‘The Boy, the Mole, The Fox and the Horse’ are set to return in a new story, ‘Always Remember: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, the Horse and the Storm’. In this follow-up, the four unlikely friends unite to navigate literal and metaphorical dark clouds, in this beautifully illustrated work.
‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ became loved by children and adults alike not just for the incredible drawings but also for the messages of friendship, hope, kindness and support that were threaded throughout the book. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse has reportedly reached over 10 million readers worldwide, and was also adapted into the Oscar-winning animated short film of the same name.
“Charlie is a unique creative force who tunes into the world’s troubles and anxieties then offers us all a way through,” said Joel Rickett, MD of Ebury at Penguin Random House UK, in a statement. “His work cuts directly to our hearts – and this new book stretches to deeper and more dangerous places to find wisdom and truth.”
“I defy anyone to sit quietly with it for just a few minutes and not be in pieces,” Rickett added. “We’re thrilled to help Charlie and his characters wander again.”
Following in the footsteps of the first book, ‘Always Remember’ will explore themes of resilience, compassion and finding strength in difficult, dark times.
“I’ve always been moved by people’s responses to the first book and how it has helped them find ways of connecting with others,” Mackesy said in a statement. “The great thing about the book is that while I’m sleeping or eating spaghetti, it is still busy and still speaks to others who find things in it that I don’t. I hope that that’s the same with Always Remember.”
In ‘Always Remember’, “Charlie Mackesy’s four unlikely friends are wandering through the wilds again. They’re not sure what they are looking for. They do know that life can be difficult, but that they love each other, and cake is often the answer. When the dark clouds come, can the boy remember what he needs to get through the storm?”
‘Always Remember: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, the Horse and the Storm’ will be published in October by Ebury Publishing; an imprint of Penguin Books UK.
