David Solomons is Waterstones Prize Winner
The Waterstones Prize winners are announced and the overall winner is a novel for younger children, the debut novel of winner David Solomons. My Brother is a Superhero is about a comic-obsessed 11-year old who gets annoyed when his older brother is given powers by an alien to help save two separate universes. David Solomons, who is already an established screenwriter first won the best younger fiction award, the beat a picture book and a teen-novel to the overall prize.
The Waterstones Prize is now in its twelfth year, and Chris Riddell, children’s laureate presented the prize to David Solomons. Here are all the winners from each category:
David Solomons – My Brother is a Superhero
The debut novel of Solomons follows the story of a comic-obsessed 11-year-old. The author wins the Best Younger Fiction Category and is the winner of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2016.

David Litchfield – The Bear and the Piano
The winner of the Best Illustrated Book Category is David Litchfield with debut book The Bear and the Piano, a moving tale full of light and emotion.
Lisa Williamson – The Art of Being Normal
Taking the prize for the Best Older Fiction Category is Lisa Williamson and her debut novel The Art of Being Normal, a gripping narrative of two friends bound by their very differences to ‘normal’.
While the authors get plenty of kudos for the prize, there is a monetary prize too. The winner was presented with a cheque for £5,000 whilst the two other category winners collect £2,000 each for their category victories.
