Lunch Dates, Book Tubers and Hot New Releases

By January 14, 2017Video

Regular followers of our blog will know that my New Year’s resolutions for 2017 are bookish ones and you’ll be pleased to know I’ve been doing my best to keep them! One of my resolutions was to generally ‘do more bookish stuff’ that isn’t necessarily reading and I started that this week with a visit to Octavo’s Book Café & Wine Bar with my equally bookish friend Sammy.

It’s been open a while now and is only a short drive from me but I still hadn’t made it along (hence the resolutions!) but I’ve finally been and I’m so glad I did. You can read my review and browse some pictures of Octavo’s here; we ended up spending five and a half hours there and it was wonderful to talk books, browse books and put the world to rights with a friend.

While I was there I met Karen Bultiauw, a book tuber and we all ended up chatting for so long my lunch went cold. Karen is lovely, originally from Belgium, she now resides here in Wales and she’s a total reading addict and enthusiast. Today I went to check out her You Tube Channel, she’s listed under A SimpleCupofTea and we’re sure you’ll love her. Here’s Karen recommending her look forward to reads for 2017.

I can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful afternoon we had at Octavo’s, it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area, and you should definitely check out Karen’s You Tube channel. While I was there, Karen recommended a book to me by an author I hadn’t heard of, Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. I started it last night and it’s brilliant so far. It reads like a Western but is set in Persia and it’s quite unlike anything I’ve read before. The second book in the series is released on 2nd February and I’m hoping to make it along to Octavo’s on 28th January when the author is visiting for a book signing!

It was the perfect bookish day, and with the promise of a future book signing too, the perfect way to help me stick to my bookish resolutions.
