HBO Announces Game of Thrones’ Final Season Will Begin in Early 2019

By July 27, 2018Adaptations, News

Since the first season aired back in 2011, HBO’s Game of Thrones has become one of the biggest TV shows of all time. Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Game of Thrones features a gritty world full of realistic war, politics, and drama, that’s set to a backdrop of dragons and magic. Following the launch of season seven last year, it was announced that the eighth season would be the show’s last and that we’d have to wait at least a year before we get a conclusion to the epic series.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, it was announced a few months ago that the show will return sometime in 2019, but a specific release date wasn’t given. Those of you who just can’t wait to return to the harsh world of Westeros will be pleased to learn that HBO has now given a slightly more specific release date.

Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, has stated that we should expect the final season to begin in “early 2019.” Previous season have aired in late March or early April so it looks like season eight is also targeting Spring.

Bloys also clarified rumours about the much talked about Game of Thrones spin-off show that is in the works. Several outlets reported that the new show would begin shooting in October, but it seems that’s not the case. “I don’t know where that report came from, we’re hoping to go into production in early ’19,” he said.
