HBO Max to Adapt Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven

Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven is New York Times Bestseller and winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award. This dystopian novel was first published in 2014 and is a look at what is lost in the collapse and the beauty of what is left behind after a deadly virus hits North America. This year, it has been announced that Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven is going to be adapted into a TV series for HBO.

The 10-episode post-apocalyptic limited drama series will air on HBO and will be created by Paramount TV studio and directed by Hiro Murai (Atlanta) will also executive produce the show alongside Peter Somerville, Scott Steindorff, Scott Delman and Dylan Russell, while Nate Matteson will serve as co-EP.

As well as news of the series itself, Deadline has also revealed some of the cast for the series. Canadian actress, Mackenzie Davis (Smashed, The Martian, Blade Runner) will play Kirsten, a character who, in the book, is a performer in a post-apocalyptic Shakespearean acting troupe called ‘Travelling Symphony’ which perform in the settlements which have sprung up since the collapse of North America. Kirsten is a survivor of the Georgia Flu pandemic, a deadly virus which attacked American citizens twenty years earlier.

Alongside Mackenzie Davis, British actor Himesh Patel (EastEnders, Yesterday) will star as Jeevan, an unemployed and ‘lost’ person who must step up into leadership when the deadly virus takes hold.

There is no news yet on when we can expect this adaptation of Station Eleven to hit our TV screens but with an award-winning novel as its base and a great cast and team creating the production, we’re expecting a hit TV series.
