We’ve seen many of Roald Dahl’s books come to the big screen, but he also has a huge collection of works that has never been adapted, and now Netflix has announced plans to adapt several of Dahl’s classics and have plans for a ‘story universe’ that goes beyond the author’s written work.

Classics such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Esio Trot, The Twits and The BFG are to get the Netflix treatment with the author’s estate announcing that there is to be a selection of animated adaptations created by the streaming giants.

It was Tuesday of this week when Netflix confirmed they had secured the rights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and its sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, the BFG, The Twits, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Boy: Tales of Childhood; Going Solo; The Enormous Crocodile; The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me; Henry Sugar; Billy and the Minpins; The Magic Finger; Esio Trot; Dirty Beasts; and Rhyme Stew. They also noted that James and the Giant Peach, Danny Champion of the World and the Fantastic Mr Fox were not included in the deal.

Production will begin on the adaptations in 2019 but no schedule has yet been announced, but Netflix has launched a Dahl teaser, which you can see below.
