Sky to Adapt H. G Wells’ The Time Machine for Series

We’ve seen some fantastic adaptations lately, and we’ve seen some fantastic books adapted several times, leaving us wondering ‘but what about the other great classics’. Well, one of my favourite novels is about to get a rework for television and I couldn’t be more excited!

This week Deadline reports that H. G Wells’ The Time Machine is to be adapted by Sky television for the small screen, although they do say the project is very early in the development stage, so it may be a while away yet, it is coming!

Screenwriter Nick Payne (Wanderlust) and director Kibwa Tavares (Noughts and Crosses) are both said to be associated with the new project.

It’s not the first time the novel has been adapted, there have already been three feature films and two television adaptations, not to mention the works of fiction it has inspired.

The Time Machine is one of Wells’ most popular works, a novella written as a frame narrative. The work is credited with the popularisation of the concept of Time Travel, Wells actually coined the phrase ‘time machine’ with this book, and iconic works such as Doctor Who and even the Time Traveler’s Wife may not exist without it.

Last year marked the 150th year since the birth of H. G Wells and to mark the occasion Sky released The Nightmare Worlds of H. G Wells. This four part series starred Ray Winstone as Wells who narrated the stories and the entire series was well received, possibly inspiring this new adaptation.

As reported, the adaption is in the early stages but we’ll bring you more news as it breaks.
