HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Official Trailer Released

In 1986, the first issue of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen was released. Now considered one of the finest graphic novels ever published, Watchmen takes a gritty look at what the world might be like if masked vigilantes prowled the streets. The comic’s popularity has only increased over the years and a film adaptation was released in 2009. Those of you who love Moore’s dark take on the superhero genre will be pleased to learn that HBO is currently developing a TV show based on the comic, and the first official trailer has just been released.

The video description reads: “Tick tock. WATCHMEN debuts this fall on HBO. From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own. The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.”

While the show will be based upon the characters and story of the original comic, it will not be an adaptation, sequel, or prequel. Instead it will tell a new, original story set in the universe of Watchmen. The only character from the original comic confirmed to appear is Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, who will be portrayed by Jeremy Irons.

The series is set to air later this year in the Fall.
