First published in 2016, Naomi Alderman’s The Power explores a world where women suddenly find they have the power to cause a great deal of pain on any man they chose. The novel received critical acclaim upon its release and won the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. It was recently announced that Amazon had secured the rights for a TV adaptation of the book, and it has now been revealed that actress Lesley Mann will star.

As Deadline reports, a 10-episode series of The Power has been given the go-ahead by Amazon and will be the first major TV role in Mann’s career so far. Reed Morano, who previously worked on The Handmaid’s Tale adaptation will serve as both the director and executive producer. The Power, will be available on Amazon Prime and will be available in over 200 countries and territories.

The book was adapted by Aldermann herself, who’s working with an all-female lineup of writers. Executive producers includes Emmy winner Featherstone, as well Emmy winner Morano and Naomi de Pear. The series will be produced by Tim Bricknell, who is known for his work on the BBC series Taboo.

As well as being critically acclaimed, The Power was also nominated by former president Barack Obama as one of his favourite books of the year. No doubt a lot of fans will be pleased to hear a TV adaptation is on its way, but there a lot it will need to live up to.
