Barbour Festive Campaign Features The Snowman and the Snowdog

By November 4, 2016Children's Literature, News

Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman, and The Snowdog is a real festive treat and for those of us of a certain age, it would be hard to forget Aled Jones bringing the character to life in song for the motion picture. The story has spanned generations, and now Barbour clothing brand is bringing back The Snowman and the Snowdog for its festive campaign!

Barbour will collaborate with Penguin Ventures to create an advertising campaign around The Snowman and the Snowdog. The clothing brand commissioned Lupus Films to create a 1 minute animated film about Billy, the young boy from The Snowman and the Snowdog. The short starts with a familiar story until eventually you see Billy all grown up and wearing what looks rather like a Barbour jacket.

The film is available to view online right now, and we’ve included it below so you can enjoy the magic too!

This is great news for the publishing industry in general, and is likely to make the books appealing to a new generation of children. The Snowman and the Snowdog, and the original Snowman book are books that will span generations, capturing the magic of the festive season on every page.

It’s not the first time a big brand has used a book character to help its Christmas push either. Last year sales of the Mog series of books by Judith Kerr went through the roof after Mog became the face of the Sainsbury’s Christmas campaign. As a massive Mog fan, I was particularly excited about this move, although Mog would have to fight me for my boiled eggs as I’m not sharing!

With Mog last year, and the Snowman and the Snowdog this year, it’s a great move for literature, and it all seems to be part of the greater movement of books and reading generally becoming a lot more en vogue.
