The best bit about being part of any reading group is getting recommendations, and so our admin reads section serves a double purpose. You get to know us a little better, and you get to find out what we’re reading and get some recommendations too.
Another month has whizzed by and the weather is getting warmer here in the UK, so we’re all looking forward to some long and hazy reading days! And without further ado, here are the books that we’ve loved over the past month.

Just last night I finished Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland. A great introduction to some of the best myths and legends of the Norse Gods. Definitely a great read if you’re enjoying American Gods.
Because of the wonderful weather we’ve had the last few weeks I’m ashamed (but not sorry) to say that my housework and “de-junking” ready to move, has been on hold while I soak up the rays and read!
I’ve really enjoyed a brand new book The Great Passage from a Japanese author Shion Miura. It’s about the lives of a group of people who are putting together a brand new dictionary. I found the writing style really beautiful and for anyone who likes words it is a really quite fascinating read.
I’ve also read both 84 Charing Cross Road and The Duchess of Bloomsbury St by Helene Hanff. They are both really short books which tell the story of Helen’s life corresponding with a bookshop in London and later visiting the shop and some of the people she had written to. Helen Hanff’s dry sense of humour had me giggling all the way through, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into some more of her work.
Finally, I am currently flying through The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (why have I never read this before?) ready for the new series due to be aired in the UK from 28th May. This book is just fascinating, I have to keep reminding myself it was written in 1985 as the themes feel so current. if you haven’t read it, you really should.

I started the month finishing The Light Between the Oceans. What a truly beautiful book, I really enjoyed it and watched the movie adaptation almost immediately afterwards and enjoyed it almost as much!
I then moved onto We Never Said Goodbye by Helen Fermont, I received it as an ARC and while not my usual genre it was a thrilling read, I really enjoyed it!
Why did I wait so long to read Angela’s Ashes? It’s been on my to be read forever and I’ve never got around to it. I really want to read Tis now!
And continuing my hop from genre to genre, I’m about half way through The Territory by Sarah Govett, it’s Young Adult fiction and it’s bloody brilliant so far, as the rising sea levels bring us to dystopian hell!
All in all I’d say it’s been a pretty good reading month for me.
